조선의 모자는 종류가 많아 한 권의 책으로는 모두 담을 수 없다. 조선의 모자를 모두 불러내어 얘기하자면 백과사전 한 권으로도 부족하다. 이 책에서는 이 땅에 살았던 선조들이 사랑했던 모자를 골라 그들의 숨결과 발자취를 따라가려 있다. 선조들이라 하니 아주 까마득한 옛일로 여길지 모르나, 가까울 때는 겨우 100여 년 이쪽저쪽의 일이다.

조선 사람은 모자를 명예의 상징으로 귀하게 여기며 의복의 한 부분으로 여긴다. 집안에 들어갈 때도 신발은 벗고 들어가지만, 모자만은 꼭 쓰고 들어간다. 식사 중에는 물론이고, 심지어 왕 앞에서도 모자를 벗지 않는다. 아쉽게도 조선의 모자를 생각하면 이상하게도 가슴이 애틋해진다. 아마도 엄혹한 계급사회에서 태어났던 조선 모자의 태생적 우울함 때문이 아닐까 싶다.

이와 함께 더 알고자 하는 것은, 이 땅의 사람들은 왜 이렇게 많은 종류의 모자를 만들어 냈을까? 수백 년의 시간을 견디며 이 땅에 정착했던 모자들이 왜 그토록 빨리 사라졌을까? 왜 우리 선조들은 모자를 사랑했을까? 선조들의 모자 사랑과 현재의 우리와는 아무런 관련이 없는가? 라는 의문점이다. 이런 의문과 함께 그렇다면 서양인들은 모자 왕국 조선과 조선인을 어떻게 보았을까? 하는 점도 무척 궁금하다.

이 책은 모자에 대한 사전이 아니며, 지향하는 바도 아니다. 다만 우리 선조들이 사랑했던 모자들이 얼마나 아름다웠고 쓸모 있었는지 보여주고, 시대와 사회상황에 따라 어떻게 변모하고 마침내 사라져갔는지를 이야기하는 첫 번째 책이다.

I think it may be due to the innate depression of Joseon mothers who were born in a harsh class society.

What I want to know more about is why did the people of this land create so many types of hats? Why did the hats that settled in this land over hundreds of years disappear so quickly? Why did our ancestors love hats? Does it have nothing to do with our ancestors' love of hats and ours today? This is the question. In addition to these questions, how did Westerners view the mother-son kingdom of Joseon and its people? I'm also very curious about this.

This book is not a dictionary of hats, nor is it intended to be. However, it is the first book that shows how beautiful and useful the hats our ancestors loved were, and how they changed and eventually disappeared depending on the times and social situations.

Pour nommer et discuter de tous les chapeaux de Joseon, même une seule encyclopédie ne suffirait pas. Dans ce livre, nous sélectionnons les chapeaux aimés par nos ancêtres qui vivaient sur cette terre et suivons leur souffle et leurs pas. En parlant de nos ancêtres, on dirait qu'il y a longtemps, mais plus près de chez nous, c'est arrivé il y a plus de 100 ans.

Les Coréens considèrent les chapeaux comme un symbole d'honneur et les considèrent comme une partie de vêtements. En entrant dans la maison, enlevez vos chaussures, mais portez toujours un chapeau. Ils n'enlèvent pas leur chapeau pendant les repas ou même devant le roi. Malheureusement, quand je pense aux chapeaux de Joseon, mon cœur est étrangement triste. Ce que je veux en savoir plus, c'est pourquoi les gens de ce pays ont créé autant de types de chapeaux ? Pourquoi les chapeaux qui se sont installés dans ce pays pendant des centaines d'années ont-ils disparu si vite ? Pourquoi nos ancêtres aimaient-ils les chapeaux ? Ça n'a rien à voir avec l'amour de nos ancêtres pour les chapeaux et les nôtres aujourd'hui ? C'est la question. En plus de ces questions, comment les Occidentaux voyaient-ils le royaume mère-fils de Joseon et son peuple? Je suis aussi très curieux à ce sujet.

Ce livre n'est pas un dictionnaire de chapeaux et n'est pas censé l'être. Cependant, c'est le premier livre qui montre à quel point les chapeaux que nos ancêtres aimaient étaient beaux et utiles, et comment ils ont changé et ont fini par disparaître selon les époques et les situations sociales.
