Korean Studies in Identity Politics and Public Diplomacy

Modern Korea Examines Its Identity and Public Diplomacy

Inha University's K Center for Research on International Relations published an English textbook titled Korean Studies in Identity Politics and Public Diplomacy to make it easier for global readers to access Korean studies.

The K-Academic Proliferation Research Center has established Korean Studies as a social science under the core theme of "Korean Studies in Politics of Identity and Public Diplomacy," and produces 10 online lectures on related topics every year and distributes them to all over the world through K-MOOC. This textbook is based on the contents of the lecture.

This book comprehensively looks at how Korea's political, cultural, and social identity has been formed and changed. It is designed to understand the changes in Korean society in three dimensions by organically combining the traditional analysis framework and the non-traditional approach. Each unit presents a balanced view of existing political theory and a new interpretation of Korea's role in the world.

This composition helps readers understand how Korea has established its own position on the global stage. In particular, it systematically analyzes how these elements combine to form influence across borders, focusing on the intersection of Korean politics, international relations, and public diplomacy. Through this, we can examine how Korea is contributing to global discussions surrounding identity, diplomacy, and cultural exchange.

This textbook adopts an interdisciplinary approach to analyze Korea from a social science perspective. It illuminates Korea's development process and role in the world from various angles by integrating insights from various disciplines such as political science, international relations, sociology, and cultural research. This attempt is meaningful in that it narrows the research gap between Korean studies and social sciences, and at the same time presents a new analysis framework for existing academic discussions.

This book is designed so that readers who are interested in Korea can easily access it regardless of their major or background knowledge. Complex political, social, and cultural issues were solved in an easy-to-understand way, and it was written in English, so that the global readership was widely considered. In addition, a QR code that connects to related online lectures is included at the beginning of each unit so that learning in connection with video content is possible.

The K Academic Proliferation Research Center hopes that through the publication of the textbook, readers around the world will be able to understand the new possibilities of modern Korean studies as a social science and further global Korean studies in three dimensions.
