Zuid-Korea, 1980. In de zuidelijke stad Gwangju vindt in de nasleep van de moord op de militaire dictator Park Chung Hee een studentenopstand plaats, die gevolgd wordt door brute represailles en een afkondiging van de krijgswet. South Korea, 1980. In the southern city of Gwangju, a student uprising takes place in the aftermath of the assassination of military dictator Park Chung Hee, followed by brutal reprisals and a declaration of martial law. As fourteen-year-old Dong-ho searches for his friend Jeong-Dae among the ever-increasing number of bodies, he becomes entangled in circumstances beyond his control that culminate in a confrontation with the military.
