자, 여기서 발칙한 가정을 하나 해보자. 만약 그 날 중종이 흔쾌히 신하들의 청을 받아들였다면? 그래서 조선시대에 여사제도가 정착되었다면? 여사들은 사책과 붓을 들고 궁궐 여기저기를 쏘다니며, 여느 사관들처럼 입시를 했을 것이고...실록에는 왕과 중전의 부부싸움 같은 흥미로운 이야기가 가득했을 것이며 ‘사필(史筆)을 하는 계집’이란 손가락질 속에 별종 취급받던 여사들도, 차츰 조선 사회의 어엿한 일원으로 받아들여졌을지도, 그리고 그들이 만들어낸 변화가 우리가 알고 있던 조선과는 또 다른 조선을 만들어냈을지도 모른다. 이 드라마는 바로 그 여사들의 이야기이다.
