5·18을 이야기하다

문재인 대통령이 개헌안에 담긴 5·18 정신에 대해 이렇게 말했다.

‘5·18 정신은 대한민국 헌법 정신이다.’

이 책은 박덕은 작가의 〈호남 문학상 수상작〉인 〈5ㆍ18〉 수필을 88개국의 언어로 표현한 책이다. 이 책에 대한 작가의 말을 소개한다.

‘5·18 정신은 대한민국 헌법 정신이다.’

헌법 전문에 담긴 5·18 정신이 구체적으로 실현돼야 할 무대는 의심할 여지없이 광주다.

민주주의의 성지라 불리는 광주는 광주정신을 생활 속에 구현하고, 광주의 다양한 가치를 확대하고 실현할 수 있는 정치적 기반을 만들어야 한다.

단순히 '진보의 밥상'으로만 머물러 왔다는 점을 반성할 필요가 있다. 또한 광주정신이자 헌법정신인 5·18정신을 매년 검증하고 발전시켜야 한다.

이를 위해 각계각층의 어르신들과 시민들이 합의를 통해 광주정신을 검증하고 이를 정립해 전달해야 할 것이다.

이러한 목적을 견지하면서 우리는 진리와 정의, 자유민주주의의 실현을 위해 꾸준히 나아가야 할 것이다.

이 수필집 [5·18]이 그 길을 향해 어떤 식으로든 기여할 수 있기를 바란다.
