국립중앙박물관은 2016년 국립중앙박물관에서 열린 주제 전시회에 동반된 영문 도서 '조선: 가동활자 왕조'를 선보이게 되어 자랑스럽습니다. 국립중앙박물관이 2009년부터 발간한 영문 전시 도서 시리즈 중 열 번째 작품으로, 한국 문화와 역사의 다양한 측면을 국내외 대중에게 널리 소개하는 사명의 일환입니다. 직지심체요절(直指心體要節, 위대한 불교 승려 선종전)은 금속 활자를 사용해 인쇄된 것으로 알려진 가장 오래된 한국 서적입니다. 고려 시대인 1377년에 출판된 이 책은 1455년에 금속 활자로 인쇄된 구텐베르크 성경보다 80년 가까이 앞선 작품입니다. 조선 시대에 제작된 많은 가동 활자 작품은 현재 국립중앙박물관이 소장하고 있습니다. 고려 시대 작품 1편을 포함해 82만여 점의 가동 활자 작품은 국가가 한 번에 주조한 수백만 점의 가동 활자 작품 중 극히 일부에 불과합니다. '조선: 가동활자 왕조'는 조선 시대의 가동 활자에 대한 역사적 연구와 세부 분류를 바탕으로 하고 있습니다. 이 책에서는 전시에 대한 자세한 내용과 함께 각 버전의 가동 활자 제작 연도, 명칭, 특징에 대한 심도 있는 정보를 제공합니다. 또한 한글의 모국어인 한글 버전을 비롯한 다양한 가동 활자의 발명 배경도 살펴봅니다.

The National Museum of Korea is proud to present Joseon: The Movable Type Dynasty, an English-language book accompanying the themed exhibition held at the museum in 2016. This is the tenth installment in the English-language exhibition book series published by the National Museum of Korea since 2009 as part of its mission to introduce diverse facets of Korean culture and history to a wider public both within and outside Korea. The Jikji simche yojeol (直指心體要節, Anthology of great Buddhist priests' Zen teachings) is the oldest Korean book known to have been printed using metal movable type. Published in 1377 during the Goryeo dynasty, it precedes the Gutenberg Bible printed with metal movable type in 1455 by nearly eighty years. Many of the movable type pieces so produced during the Joseon dynasty are now held by the National Museum of Korea. The over 820,000 movable type pieces, including one piece from the Goryeo dynasty, in the NMK collection make up only a tiny portion of the millions of movable type pieces cast at one time by the state. "Joseon: The Movable Type Dynasty" is based on the historical research and detailed classification on the movable type of Joseon dynast. The details of the exhibition are offered in this book along with in-depth information on the production year, name, and features of each version of movable type. The book also explores the background underlying the invention of different movable types, including the versions for Hangeul, the native Korean alphabet.

Le Musée national de Corée est fier de présenter Joseon : The Movable Type Dynasty, un livre de langue anglaise accompagnant l'exposition thématique organisée au musée en 2016. Il s'agit du dixième épisode de la série de livres d'exposition de langue anglaise publiée par le Musée national de Corée depuis 2009 dans le cadre de sa mission d'introduire diverses facettes de la culture et de l'histoire coréennes à un public plus large, tant à l'intérieur qu'à l'extérieur de la Corée. Le Jikji simche yo kyeong (直指心體要節, Anthologie des enseignements zen des grands prêtres bouddhistes) est le plus vieux livre coréen connu pour avoir été imprimé à l'aide d'un type métallique mobile. Publié en 1377 pendant la dynastie Goryeo, il précède de près de quatre-vingts ans la Bible de Gutenberg imprimée avec du métal mobile en 1455. Bon nombre des pièces mobiles ainsi produites pendant la dynastie Joseon sont maintenant détenues par le Musée national de Corée.
