감독 이지은에게 각본이란 “모든 영화 용어를 통틀어” 가장 좋아하는 단어다. 그가 “관객이 보고 싶어하는 것을 충족시키는 날줄과, 관객의 기대를 기분 좋게 배반하는 씨줄을 촘촘히 엮어가며” 뜨거운 마음으로 쓴 〈비밀의 언덕〉의 오리지널 각본이 이 책에 담겨 있다. 작품 속에서 주인공 명은이 끊임없이 글을 쓰는 과정은 영화감독 이전의 각본가 이지은이 글쓰기에 대해 깊게 탐구한 결과물이기도 하다. 그래서 각본 상태의 〈비밀의 언덕〉은 영화의 미완성 단계가 아닌, 그 자체로도 완성도 높은 문학 작품이 된다.

〈비밀의 언덕〉을 바라보는 다른 시선들도 이 책을 빛내고 있다. 먼저 《씨네21》 편집위원 김혜리는 이지은을 심도 있게 인터뷰하며 “왕성한 욕망의 주체”인 10대 여성 명은이라는 캐릭터를 구체적으로 분석하고, 영화 속 디테일에 담긴 의미를 이끌어낸다. 소설가 김혜정은 명은이 또래였던 시절을 되돌아본다. 그 무렵 자신에게 글쓰기란 어떤 의미였는지, 명은과 혜진은 글쓰기를 통해 무엇을 알게 되고 얻게 될지를 다정한 문장으로 이야기한다. 소설가 김중혁은 〈비밀의 언덕〉을 “‘창작자는 어떻게 탄생하는가’라는 질문에 대한 대답”이라고 정의한다. 솔직함이 언제나 옳은 것인가? 누군가 다치더라도 완벽한 예술을 추구하는 게 나은가? 결국 글을 쓰고자 하는 사람이라면 맞닥뜨릴 수밖에 없는 본질적인 질문을 마주하게 하는 영화의 힘을 확인시켜준다.

Therefore, "The Hill of Secrets" in its script state is not an unfinished stage of the film, but a highly complete literary work in itself.

The screenplay in this book has lines and scenes that are different from those in real movies. It is fun to find out how the two-dimensional world conceived by screenwriter Lee Ji-eun and the three-dimensional world embodied by director Lee Ji-eun have changed.
