이명세 감독의 주축으로 장항준, 김종관, 노덕, 윤유경, 조성환 감독이 참여하고 이들의 페르소나로 각 작품에 등장하는 심은경 배우의 시네마 앤솔러지 「더 킬러스」 각본집이 미메시스에서 출간되었다. 2024년 10월 영화 관객에게 공개된 「더 킬러스」는 어니스트 헤밍웨이가 1927년에 발표한 단편 「살인자들」을 모티프로 6명의 감독이 색다른 6개의 이야기를 풀어내는 옴니버스 구성을 갖추고 있다. 각 작품에서 심은경 배우는 흡혈귀로(변신), 하청 업자들에게 붙잡힌 인질로(업자들), 1970년대 잡지 모델로(모두가 그를 기다린다), 삐삐 롱스타킹과 같은 외모의 종업원으로(무성영화), 먼 미래의 지구인으로(언 땅에 사과나무 심기), 그리고 겉은 도믿걸이지만 알고 보면 능력 있는 백수로(인져리 타임) 등장한다. 각 단편이 공유하는 또 다른 주제로 에드워드 호퍼가 「살인자들」을 읽고 영감을 얻어 그렸다는 그림 「나이트호크(밤을 지새우는 사람들)」도 있다. 어두운 도시의 밤, 길모퉁이 술집, 누구를 기다리는지 알 수 없는 사람들, 그들 사이의 묘한 관계 등 저절로 드라마가 만들어지는 듯한 이 그림을 배경으로 6명의 감독은 자신들만의 시나리오를 선보인다. 하지만 같은 모티프로 출발했음에도 그 속에서 감독들만의 고유한 〈살인자〉가 등장하기에 「더 킬러스」는 앤솔러지임에도 각 영화가 크게 보면 한 편의 영화처럼 보이고 유기적으로 연결된다. 이 단편들을 엮은 『더 킬러스 각본집』은 심은경 배우가 영화를 촬영하면서 느낀 감정과 옴니버스 작품들이 어떤 이야기를 담고 있는지 마치 「더 킬러스」의 안내자가 되어 책을 시작한다. 그 뒤를 이어 헤밍웨이의 단편 「살인자들」이 실려 있어, 독자는 원작을 바탕으로 각 시나리오가 지니는 개성 넘치는 매력을 고스란히 느낄 수가 있다. 또한 6편의 스토리보드와 스틸 사진을 함께 수록해 영화를 본 관객들에게는 「더 킬러스」를 다시 한번 감상하는 기분을 안겨 주며, 시나리오 작법이 궁금한 독자에게는 6편의 시나리오를 한자리에서 비교하고 분석할 수 있어 두고두고 공부가 될 것이다.

「더 킬러스」의 첫 이야기인 김종관 감독의 「변신」은 등에 칼이 꽂힌 채 의문의 바에서 눈을 뜬 남자로부터 이야기를 시작한다. 바텐더가 건넨 칵테일을 마시자 동공이 열리면서 알 수 없는 힘이 솟아나는 것을 느끼며 그는 〈변신〉을 보여 준다. 노덕 감독의 「업자들」은 3억에서 시작한 살인 의뢰 현장으로 우리를 안내한다. 살인 의뢰는 하청을 거듭하다 단돈 3백에 3명의 어리숙한 킬러들에게 주어진다. 장항준 감독의 암흑 영화 「모두가 그를 기다린다」는 1979년 어느 대폿집으로 이동한다. 젊은 작부가 운영하는 선술집에 보름째 잠복 수사 중인 형사는 왼쪽 어깨에 수선화 문신이 있다는 정보만으로 〈염상구〉라는 자를 찾고 있다. 적막한 어느 밤, 〈염상구〉를 찾는 사람들이 하나둘 모이는데……. 한편 한국의 최고 스타일리스트 이명세 감독의 「무성영화」는 지하 세계로 내려간다. 범법자, 도시 난민, 추방자 들이 모여 사는 디아스포라 시티를 찾아온 두 킬러. 매일 같은 시간, 같은 자리에서 같은 메뉴를 시키는 미상의 표적을 찾아 그들이 식당에 들어서면서 내부엔 적막이 흐른다. 윤유경 감독의 「언 땅에 사과나무 심기」는 우리를 우주로 순간 이동시킨다. 1백 년 가까이 잊힌 채 홀로 우주를 유영하던 전설의 킬러 앞에 그를 제거하러 온 침입자가 등장하며 둘 사이에 탐색전이 시작된다. 조성환 감독의 「인져리 타임」은 우리를 옴짝달싹 못 하게 묶어 두는 〈결계〉가 등장한다. 외딴 숲 카페, 자신과 똑 닮은 누군가와 일하는 바리스타는 우연히 3명의 낯선 방문객들과 만나게 되고, 그들은 뜻밖의 제안을 한다.
